SAESEM is proud to be part of the first cohort of the Territoire de solutions program, in partnership with the Campus de la transition écologique, the Parc Jean-Drapeau, and the City of Montreal. Our project, Urban Vines, is a bold endeavor to combat urban heat islands by implementing horizontal and vertical vine structures to create cool spaces in the heart of our city.
A Strong Commitment against Urban Heat Islands
Through Urban Vines, we are implementing an innovative and daring approach to tackle urban heat islands head-on. With the support of the Territoire de solutions program, our mission is to amplify the impact of our project and swiftly test tangible solutions on the ground. Our goal is clear: to create refreshing green spaces that provide relief from the adverse effects of heat by strategically planting vines horizontally and vertically.
A Solid Partnership with Chez Doris
On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, we achieved a significant milestone for Urban Vines by organizing our first planting activity in collaboration with Chez Doris, a community organization for homeless women. This initiative brought together women from diverse backgrounds to contribute to the creation of a cooler and more pleasant environment within our beautiful city. Together, we sowed the seeds of a fresher and greener future.

Our commitment to fighting urban heat islands doesn’t stop there. We have planned numerous activities throughout the autumn season to continue our mission.
